It is a very efficient pulses switch that works on the ‘on-off’ principle by applying alternating current pulses to the gate terminal.When the gate terminal is voltage driven with a suitable gate voltage, it creates an electric field that reduces the junction capacitance, which accelerates the carriers to the anode. This causes a fast turn-on of the device. The MCD310-20IO1 thyristor module, due to its advanced PTC protection, reconnects to the source voltage during cycles in order to provide regulated and stable current. When the current in the anode circuit exceeds the ratings of the device, the module will triac, which means that the reverse current and voltage are switched off.
