Introduction Thyristors are solid state semiconductors that are widely used to control current when triggered by small signals like a pulse. SCRs or Silicon Controlled Rectifiers are a type of four-layered thyristor with three means of operation: Gate Triggering, Line Commutation and Phase Control. MCK200-18IO1 is a SCR module designed for industrial applications.Application field MCK200-18IO1 is a versatile SCR module capable of operating in harsh industrial conditions, even in the presence of extreme fluctuations in temperature and voltage. It is suitable for use in a variety of industrial applications including motor speed control, motor braking, soft start-stop operations, AC circuit switching, and power factor correction.Working principle The MCK200-18IO1 SCR module operates on the principle of gate triggering. A gate current is applied to the SCR gate terminal to turn it on and reduce the turn-on time. The module can be used to control various AC load circuits with speed control and power factor correction. When triggered by a gate current, the SCR module conducts current between its MT1 and MT2 terminals. The magnitude of the current depends on the amplitude and duration of the gate current applied. The turn-on time is further reduced by the additional series resistance connected to the gate terminal. At the turn-off point, the current flowing through the SCR falls to zero and is blocked by the offset voltage of the SCR. This process is called commutation and it is used to turn off the SCR module. Conclusion The MCK200-18IO1 SCR module is a versatile and robust digital switch designed to operate in a variety of industrial applications. Through the application of a gate current, the SCR module switches AC load circuits with speed control and power factor correction. By using commutation, the SCR module can also be turned off easily.
