MCP1631T-E/ML is a current-mode pulse-width-modulation (PWM) DC/DC switching controller designed specifically for high frequency/high current buck applications. It features a low on-resistance internal synchronous rectifier MOSFET, superior jitter performance and programmable loop compensation. Additionally, the MCP1631T-E/ML includes a harmonic-correction-current-mode architecture that enables designers to produce highly efficient designs in a wide breadth of application areas.The MCP1631T-E/ML is ideal for a variety of power-conversion applications such as powering FPGAs, DSPs, microcontrollers, ASICs, and other high-bandwidth power loads. With an integrated MOSFET, the MCP1631T-E/ML simplifies design and increases efficiency by eliminating the need for external power elements. This device is also capable of synchronizing to an external clock, allowing frequency dithering and transient reduction to be used in applications with high frequency switching requirements and wide input voltage ranges.The MCP1631T-E/ML provides a host of integrated protection features, including input undervoltage lockout (UVLO), programmable soft-start/soft-stop, programmable maximum operating frequency, and overtemperature, foldback and open-loop protection. These features support superior, reliable operation of next-generation, high-performance power-supply designs.Application Field and Working PrincipleThe MCP1631T-E/ML combines a high-voltage regulation circuit and an internal synchronous MOSFET in a single package to deliver power-efficiency and flexibility for wide variety of low-power applications, such as powering microcontrollers, DSPs and FPGAs. It operates over a wide voltage range of 6V to 30V, and as low as 0.7V, enabling support for a wide range of low-voltage, high-performance microcontrollers and FPGAs. This device is also capable of synchronizing to an external clock, allowing frequency dithering and transient reduction to be employed in applications with high frequency switching requirements and wide input voltage ranges.The MCP1631T-E/ML utilizes a current mode PWM control and a synchronous rectifier to produce high-efficiency designs in a wide range of input voltage and output load conditions. The PWM functions to control the switching of MOSFET to regulate the output voltage of the buck converter. An external compensation loop is provided to allow the user to optimize the output voltage of the converter.The MCP1631T-E/ML includes several safety features, such as input undervoltage lockout (UVLO), programmable soft-start and soft-stop functions, and protection against overcurrent and overtemperature conditions.
