Working Principle
The MCP1804T-A002I/MT works by controlling the voltage drop and current flow through the linear regulator’s pass element (usually an N-Channel MOSFET). When the pass element is off, no current is allowed to flow through the regulator, guaranteeing a low quiescent current of 15µA (typical).
The MCP1804T-A002I/MT can be put into a state to achieve the highest efficiency and prolong battery life. When the output load is light, the device uses the Burst Mode® feature to reduce its quiescent current from 150µA (max) to 15µA (typical). It also has a transition time of 100µs (typical) between the Burst Mode® operation and the normal operation, ensuring fast and reliable transition to light load conditions.
This device has an internal current-limit feature that reduces power dissipation and ensures device protection. The current limit is set based on the output load and remains constant regardless of the input voltage; however, it can be adjusted externally with the addition of a sense resistor. The maximum output current is 1.5A. This voltage regulator is designed to stay functional between -40°C to +125°C environmental temperatures with a 0.3V dropout voltage.
