The MCP1827-1802E/AT is a linear voltage regulator belonging to a family of Voltage Regulators from the Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMIC) category. The MCP1827-1802E/AT is a low quiescent current, regular voltage regulator suitable for operation at an input voltage of up to 30V. The device is able to provide output current up to 1.5A and is able to adjust output voltage range from 0.8V up to 28V, depending on the user requirements. The main features of the MCP1827/AT series is its wide input voltage range and its ability to provide a regulated output voltage while providing very low quiescent current. The device also features a very low dropout voltage, along with the recognition of both normal voltage mode (Vcc) and logic level inputs. Both are used to enable the startup sequence, along with a choice of PWM or linear operation mode. In addition, the MCP1827-1802E/AT is equipped with several safety features, such as over/under-voltage protection, over-current/current limit protection, reverse polarity protection, brownout protection, and thermal protection. All of these features enable the user to ensure that the device performs within the Safety standards of the system. The working principle of the MCP1827-1802E/AT involves the following steps:1. The Regulating Circuit selects the voltage to be supplied by the MCP1827-1802E/AT. This is done by the means of the external resistors that form a voltage divider network between the input voltage and the regulated output voltage. 2. The internal voltage reference generates a signal which is compared to the output voltage. This signal is fed back to the regulating circuit, which adjusts its output accordingly in order to keep the output voltage constant.3. The linear voltage regulator then regulates the output voltage by controlling the current flowing from the input voltage into the output voltage. It does this by reducing the difference between the output voltage and the internal reference voltage with each pulse of the current. This process is known as pulse width modulation (PWM).4. Once the output voltage is stabilized, the linear voltage regulator enters a low quiescent mode, monitoring the input and output voltages, and adjusting the current flow when necessary.By integrating all of the features mentioned above, the MCP1827-1802E/AT makes an ideal choice for applications requiring a low-dropout linear voltage regulator requiring very low quiescent current. Typical applications include providing a regulated output voltage for consumer audio equipment, power regulation for micro-controller units and memory modules, as well as direct input supply for switches, acoustic enclosures and other electronic devices. Furthermore, the extended temperature range featured by the MCP1827-1802E/AT makes it suitable for applications in outdoor environment, automotive, aircraft and similar applications.
