MCP2022T-330E/ST is an automotive quality step-down buck converter specifically designed for in-vehicle 12V to 5V isolated application. It is a high efficiency, single-channel synchronous buck converter, which can provide an output of up to 3A output current, with a efficiency of over 95%.

Working Principle

The MCP2022T-330E/ST uses a synchronous rectification technique in its buck converter design, where the low side MOSFET is controlled directly by the PWM controller. This makes the converter highly efficient, with a typical efficiency of up-to 95%. The synchronous rectification results in a significantly reduced current level in the switch during switching, hence reducing the MOSFET gate drive requirements and improving system efficiency.

The converter also features advanced voltage loop control, providing excellent transient response and accuracy. The wide input voltage range of the converter is from 5.5V up to 16V. The output voltage can be regulated from 0.8V up to 5V precise, with a maximum of 3A output current. The converter can operate at a switching frequency of up to 2MHz, which allows for a very compact design without compromising performance.
