Working Principle

The MCP3426A5T-E/MC is a differential input ADC, which allows conversion of differential inputs ranging from 200 μV (microvolts) up to 16V. It employs a SAR (successive approximation register) architecture to perform the analog-to-digital conversion. The SAR architecture helps to keep the offset voltage, nonlinearity, gain error and digital output noise low.

The MCP3426A5T-E/MC takes two inputs, such as a differential voltage and temperature, and converts them into a compliant 16-bit digital representation of the signals. To ensure the highest accuracy and resolution, the MCP3426A5T-E/MC utilizes a successful combination of low power consumption, low noise and low offset voltage. It also contains an Internal precision voltage reference (to provide a fixed reference voltage) and temperature compensated reference voltage.

The MCP3426A5T-E/MC can be configured to provide single-ended or differential inputs and selectable ranges up to sixteen times the full scale range of the device. Moreover, the device can also be configured to provide adjustable gains and channel selection.

The MCP3426A5T-E/MC can convert samples at rates of up to 195 kSps (kilo samples per second). It is also capable of storing a value for the end of conversion to the internal register, and provides output data access through both serial and parallel ports.
