Data acquisition is a term for the process of sampling signals that measure real world conditions and converting the resulting samples into digital numeric values that can be manipulated by a computer. Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs), or Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC), is the critical component to translate the analog signal into the digital domain. The MCP3427T-E/UN is a high performance, single-channel AD converter that is powered and is highly integrated with a complete signal chain on a single chip.

MCP3427T-E/UN Working Principle

This allows the ADC to digitize the input signal without the need for an external reference voltage or temperature compensation.

The MCP3427T-E/UN features two selectable bit accuracy modes; one mode allows for 16-bit resolution and the other for 18-bit resolution. Depending on the application, the mode can be chosen and adjusted with a low fixed sample rate using a single conversion command.

The MCP3427T-E/UN also supports a low power conversion mode, allowing the user to reduce the power consumption by automatically storing the converted data and switching off the converter during the conversion process. The MCP3427T-E/UN also features a Real-Time Sleep Mode which can be used to reduce the power consumption of the chip by turning off the converter during idle periods. This is done by sending a logic signal to the chip to enter this mode, which can then be triggered to leave this mode when needed.
