MDM-21SBSPT (Mineral Dust Monitor – twenty one State of the art Spectral Particulate Transmissometer) has been developed as an integrated sensor system for effective monitoring of ambient dust and aerosols particles suspended in the air. It is a lightweight and compact particle size classifier and detector of dust, particulates, and aerosols in the atmosphere. It is a typical example of multi-channel spectral particulate transmissometer designed with a simple optical design for the detection of particles in the air. This application field of MDM-21SBSPT includes environmental monitoring for particulate matter, dust, smoke, haze, aerosol particles and suspended particles in the atmosphere, quality control and well-being monitoring of individuals, industry, public health, resource management and research.
The working principle of MDM-21SBSPT is based on the detection of particles suspended in the air by using an optical light source which is focused on the particle or dust cloud passing through an analysis chamber. The light from the source is then passed through a series of differential optical filters positioned in the analysis chamber. The transmitted light collected at the other side of the analysis chamber is analyzed and its spectrum is compared to the spectrum of the original light source.
The particles present in the air are detected based on the difference between the original source spectrum and the transmitted spectrum after the passage of particles. The differential optical filters used in MDM-21SBSPT are designed to have a specific spectral response and can detect particles in the range of 0.3 μm to 10 μm. For each of the differential filters, the output signals are processed to obtain the respective particle size range signal and its corresponding spectral transient curve. This curve is then used to calculate the particle size distribution of the particulate sample.
The MDM-21SBSPT can also detect particles in real-time, since its operation is completely automated and the results can be obtained within a few seconds. Its spectral analysis capabilities allow it to detect and classify small particles in various size ranges. Moreover, its user-friendly interface enables researchers and practitioners to effectively measure and control particle concentrations in their environment.
