The  MIC2182-3.3YSM is a synchronous step-down DC-DC switching controller designed for high efficiency, low noise and low-cost applications. The device operates from 4.5V to 30V input voltage range and delivers 3.3V output at up to 5A load current. Its fixed frequency, current-mode control provides easy compensation and fast load transient response with minimal external components.

The MIC2182-3.3YSM also features a built-in low-side MOSFET (60mΩ at 3.3V), high-side MOSFET with 50mΩ dynamic resistance and integrated bootstrap diode for improved efficiency and lower cost. It has cycle-by-cycle peak current limit and integrated voltage-feedback error detection for protection and safety.

The device also includes a Power Good (Open-Drain) pin, externally adjustable soft-start, under-voltage lockout, over-voltage protection, and an enable pin for power savings. Other features include cycle-by-cycle foldback, over-temperature protection, and adjustable switching frequency.

Applications of the MIC2182-3.3YSM include phones and PDAs, point-of-load converters, computers, notebooks, game consoles, printer power supplies, HDTVs and many other industrial and consumer applications.

The MIC2182-3.3YSM operation is as follows. The input voltage is applied to the internal high-side switch, which is controlled by the controller. The controller monitors the output voltage via the voltage-feedback pin and adjusts the on-time of the high-side switch accordingly. This in turn, controls the output voltage. When the output voltage is regulated, the controller will maintain the same duty cycle depending on the load current. The Power Good pin will indicate when the output voltage is within regulation.
