MIC2782CRYCS-TR application field and working principle
The MIC2782CRYCS-TR, in the family of PMIC - Supervisors, is a cost-effective reset IC (Integrated Circuits) to supervise microprocessor-based systems. As an industry-grade integrated circuit, it helps to detect and prevent the microprocessor system from running into over-voltage or under-voltage conditions and provides power-on reset in case of system malfunction. It works by comparing the input voltage from system-level power supplies with reference voltage, and asserts a reset signal if it is identified that the system requires a reset.The MIC2782CRYCS-TR, by design, offers a wide spectrum of application. It is sometimes used as a window watchdog for digital signal processor (DSP) based systems. It is also used in conjunction with various microprocessors and application-specific ICs (ASICs) like microcontrollers encompassing analog and digital system designs. This IC is quite popular in the automotive, industry, telecom and datacom, communications, and consumer electronics, as well as in many other fields.The MIC2782CRYCS-TR offers a cost-effective reset solution to protect and monitor microprocessor systems from glitching due to electrical noise, power-supply degradation, and fast transients. It typically requires two input power supply levels for comparison. The upper threshold voltage typically is set about 1.6V above the nominal operating voltage of the microprocessor/microcontroller system. The power fail comparator checks if the voltage falls below the lower voltage threshold and asserts the power-fail signal if the voltage is below the threshold.Apart from these features the MIC2782CRYCS-TR also offers a reset function to restart microprocessor systems if it reaches an over voltage or under voltage condition. This IC contains a comparator, which compares the voltage supplied to the system with a pre-set reference voltage. The comparator then signals when the system is outside the operating range pre-determined by the reference voltage and causes the system to shut down, protecting it from further damage.Furthermore, the MIC2782CRYCS-TR provides a window watchdog feature for DSP based systems. In a DSP based system, the assert and de-assert of the reset signal is timed by a counter. The MIC2782CRYCS-TR uses the TTL compatible reset signal which is to be triggered after a count value has been stored and will then act as an interrupt source for the microprocessor.The MIC2782CRYCS-TR also offers a slew rate control feature, which controls the magnitude of initial inrush current from a power supply and ensures that the local secondary power supply is not overloaded by a start-up surge or transient. The slew rate control can be set using an external capacitor, which is placed in the time constant circuit of external comparators.All in all, the MIC2782CRYCS-TR offers superior voltage protection, window watchdog features, reset protection, and slew rate control features in a single package to provide cost effective and robust solutions to microprocessor system protection.
