If the input voltage rises above the reference voltage, the error amplifier increases the pass element’s current until it matches the reference voltage.

By operating close to the dropout voltage of the device at no load, the quiescent current is kept to a minimum. The MIC29152WU is compatible with input voltages from 3.3V to 20V, and it can be used for output voltages from 1.2V to 19V. Output current is limited to 500 mA peak, with a typical maximum output current of 250mA, and a maximum dropout voltage of 0.6V.

For higher levels of accuracy and better temperature stability, the MIC29152WU comes with an adjustable reference voltage, which can be used to set the desired output voltage. The reference voltage can be adjusted from 0.8 to 4V in 40mV increments, which allows the device to provide output voltage accuracy of ±5% between an operating temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.
