The MIC38C43BM-TR is a Voltage Regulator and a DC DC Switching Controller, specifically designed and manufactured by Microchip Technology Inc., to offer simple and cost-effective power supply solutions. It includes a precision voltage reference, modulator and voltage sensor, allowing the user to set the desired output voltage on its 3-bit internal D/A converter easily.The device can be used in a variety of applications with its features such as wide input voltage (4V to 36V) range, adjustable output voltage (2V to 34V) range with good regulation over the line and load conditions, adjustable switching frequency (50kHz to 500kHz) for maximum flexibility and user programming with accuracy to 2.5%.The MIC38C43BM-TR has an internal Under-Voltage Lockout (UVLO) which monitors the input voltage and keeps the device in shut-off state during insufficient input voltage. This also allows a wide range of start up frequencies. Furthermore, the device has a Thermal Shut-Off (TSO) feature, which keeps the device in shut-off state when the chip temperature exceeds its specified upper limit. This protects the device from any damage resulting from excessive power dissipation.The device is capable of operating in two different modes: Constant Frequency Mode (CFM) and Pulse-Skip Mode (PSM). These modes allow the user to optimize the system performance and efficiency for different applications. In CFM mode, an integral P-type oscillator is used to generate a switching pattern that keeps the frequency of the PWM output at a predetermined level. In PSM mode, the device is used in a discontinuous conduction mode and the switching frequency varies with the load.The MIC38C43BM-TR is available in a wide range of packages, and comes with an evaluation board for user evaluation.
