MIKE11/3M/SMAM/S/S/17 Application Field and Working Principle

Millimeter wave (MMW) radar refers to the use of microwave to detect the range, radial velocity and angular position of targets. It uses microwave of 0.3mm~3mm (30GHz~300GHz) electromagnetic wave, transmits high-power pulse signals, and receives and processing reflected echoes from the target, so as to obtain target information. The MMW radar (MIKE11/3M/SMAM/S/S/17) commonly used in long-distance detection is an interrogated dual-frequency single-pulse active phased array type.

The dual frequency of this type of radar is generated by two frequency sources, where the frequency of the first frequency source is slightly lower than that of the second frequency source, generating two frequency signals with a frequency difference of 1K — 10K Hz. The noise-like transmitted pulse signal is generated by modulating the two frequency signals. The noise-like transmitted pulse signal is sent to the antenna array by a directional coupler, and then sent to the target. When the target receives the transmitted pulse signal, it reflects back to the antenna array, and then the received echo signals are down-converted and sent to the baseband processor for subsequent target feature extraction and parameter extraction.

The antenna array in the MIKE11/3M/SMAM/S/S/17 radar system is divided into N independent elements, so that it can give directions according to the combination of the N element signals: a signal beam is formed in the direction of the main beam by properly adjusting the phase difference, amplitude difference and relative orientation of the N element signals, and the signal power will be accumulated along the direction of the main beam. At the same time, the MIKE11/3M/SMAM/S/S/17 radar system uses pulse signal with two different frequencies and wide bandwidth, so its Doppler resolution is greatly enhanced.

The two frequencies of the pulse signal are transmitted simultaneously before the target is illuminated. After being reflected by the target, the signal sent back is received by the antenna array and each sub-array. The base band processor receives and processes the returned signal, and then decodes the signal. The information transmitted by the echo is sent to the computer, which completes the target detection and differentiation task. Based on the analysis of the two-frequency signal, the relative velocity of the target and the relative Doppler frequency of the target can be calculated, so as to calculate the motion information of the target.
