Fixed inductors are passive electrical components used to maintain and store electrical energy in the form of an induced magnetic field. As such, they are commonly referred to as coils, or chokes. Common applications for inductors include: electrical circuitry in computers, radio transmitters and receivers, dc-dc power converters, motor control systems, and various sound systems. The MIL1330-82K series of fixed inductors are specifically designed for use in dc-dc power converters, motor control systems, and audio-visual equipment, and are available in a wide variety of inductance values ranging from 2.2µH to 4267µH.

The MIL1330-82K inductor is a wound, ferrite core component that utilizes the principle of Faraday\'s Law to provide the required level of stored energy. This law states that the amount of induced magnetic field, or flux, is proportionally related to the rate of change of the magnetic field. In this case, the number of inductance coils, their duration, and their spacing, work in conjunction to provide a varying level of induced flux, as determined by the specific application.

The MIL1330-82K has two types of construction: axial and radial. Axial-type inductors consist of a single large coil wound in a loop around a ferrite core. Radial-type inductors consist of multiple coils wound in series and arranged in a radial pattern around a ferrite core. The choice of construction type depends on the application.

The MIL1330-82K family of inductors is optimized for use with either a 12V or 24V dc-dc power converter, engine control, or logic gate circuits. They are designed to provide an approximate voltage drop of 0.2V (average) in their operating range. The resulting efficiency of the inductor is much higher than a similar inductor using an air core, resulting in improved power conversion efficiency. As an example, the MIL1330-82K inductors can provide an effective, energy-conserving power income of up to 90%, compared to an air-core inductor that would provide around 60%.

The MIL1330-82K also provides additional benefits in areas such as vibration resistance, low EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), and temperature stability. By increasing the number of windings, the inductance of the component can be tailored for a variety of blower systems.
