It is a zero-ohm chip form thermal cut-off fixed inductor, designed for high frequency applications such as switching power supplies, telecommunications, automotive, audio and other electronic equipment applications.DesignThe design of the MIL2510-16K fixed inductor is intended to meet the stringent reliability standards of today’s electronics applications. The MIL2510-16K features a wide range of temperature ratings, from -40°C to +125°C. It is built with a shielded copper winding with ferrite core and a ceramic enclosure to protect the winding from external influences. The MIL2510-16K is equipped with a thermistor built within the core of the inductor for cut-off functionality which is used to prevent the damage of these components due to overheating.Application FieldThe MIL2510-16K offers a wide range of applications, including general consumer electronics, telecom, automotive and industrial electronics applications. The features of the MIL2510-16K make it especially suited for sensitive equipment used in medical devices, power supplies, motor control, and other critical applications.Working PrincipleThe MIL2510-16K is designed in such a way that its inductance is almost completely eliminated when it overheats, thereby protecting the circuit from further damage due to overcurrent. The thermistor built into the core of the inductor has very low resistance when cold, so that it acts as a high-value inductor in the circuit. As the temperature rises, the resistance of the thermistor increases. This causes a decrease in current passing through the inductor, which in turn reduces the inductance. When the temperature reaches the pre-set threshold, the resistance of the thermistor becomes very high and the inductor is effectively eliminated from the circuit. The advantage of this design is that it provides a fast and accurate response in the event of an overcurrent or continuous overload.
