The MJS 350 Application Field and Working Principle of Fuses
The MJS 350 fuse is a member of the fuse family that offers maximum protection for power systems. The MJS 350 is a high-quality, medium-frequency fused medium-voltage switchboard for AC/DC, foot-mounted switching applications. It is designed for medium voltage applications, ranging from 6 kV to 36 kV per phase.
MJS 350 fuses are generally used to protect equipment such as generator, transformer, rectifier circuits, motors, and short-circuit protection dipoles or breakers in power switching applications. The fuse protects power equipment from currents between 50A and 2000A. The fuse also works to provide overload protection with a 250%, melting-time rating to ensure that if an overload occurs, the fuse will melt quickly but still protect the equipment from being damaged.
The MJS 350 fuse is designed to remove excessive current from the system while still providing sufficient protection from any potential short circuits. It has an overload limit of 150% and will instantly open in the event of an overload, disconnecting the power supply. The melting components of the fuse are rated between six and twelve times the full load current at a rate of 50A/s. The fuse also has different time-delay ratings to allow for different applications depending on its environment.
The MJS 350 fuse works by melting when the current passing through it exceeds its rated current value. This is achieved by passing an electric current through the fuse\'s internal electrodes. When the current passing through the fuse reaches its maximum rating the electrodes heat up sufficiently so that the fuse’s plug-in link melts, terminating the current flow. The melting time of the MJS 350 fuse depends on the type of fuse material used, the shape of the core element, and the size of the fuse.

The connection of the fuse employs a flat surface which carries the electric current. This flat surface ensures that the fuse link does not come loose from the holder, even under high temperatures.
In order to remain safe in use, the MJS 350 fuse also complies with a number of safety standards. These include the IEC 60947-2, which covers mechanical, electrical and thermal conditions, and the UL98 standard, which covers the construction, performance, installation and maintenance. The fuse is also tested for endurance in accordance with IEC 61000-4-3 in order to ensure the safety of both the fuse and the system it is protecting.
