Optical Sensors are devices used to detect the presence or absence within an application area based on a beam of light. One type of Optical Sensor is a Photo Detector. They are designed to convert light, normally infrared light, into electrical signals. One of these is the MOFR-M12-8 which is designed to detect barriers such as barcodes, paper, wood and metal in a specific application area. It is capable of using the Positive and Negative Logic Output.

The MOFR-M12-8 is a rectangular shaped photo detector that can be placed in either a wall or tabletop position. The unit includes two L-shaped slots; one is for mounting the device onto a wall or table and the other is for an optional light-emitting diode (LED) for additional lighting. The adjustable sensing range can be set between 0.2 and 2.5m.

The MOFR-M12-8 utilizes a diffuse reflective photo detector and optical amplifier circuit to detect barriers within the sensing area. The unit is considered a "Self-contained Ambient Light Suppression (SALS) type photo detector" which eliminates interference from ambient light on the detection area. The sensitivity of the detection range is adjustable which allows the user to customize it for their application. This can be done manually or through the software interface. The unit is factory pre-set to a 1 meter range.

When an object or barrier passes through the detection range, the MOFR-M12-8 detects it and produces an output signal that can be connected to a PLC, logic control, display or other devices. The output signal can be configured to either Positive or Negative Logic based on the application. The Positive Logic output provides a low output when no barrier is detected within the sensing range, and a high output when a barrier is detected. The Negative Logic output provides a high output when no barrier is detected and a low output when a barrier is detected.

The MOFR-M12-8 is designed for a wide range of applications including detecting paper, wood, metal and barcodes.
