MP163CGS-5

　　The MP163CGS-5 from Microsemi is an integrated dc-dc converter. It is a full bridge offline controller designed to drive two external N-MOSFETs complete with a synchronous rectifier to produce a high power density solution. MP163CGS-5 is a low-profile, highly efficient,controller with working frequency up to 500KHz. It is suitable for a wide range of industrial and consumer applications, including telecom, wireless communications, industrial, motor control, automotive, and computer peripherals.

　　MP163CGS-5 is a full bridge offline N-MOSFET controller which is based on the PWM current-mode. It is available in 8 pin SOIC SMD package and is designed to drive two N-type MOSFETs to produce the output voltage. It is designed with various protection circuitry embedded such as over current protection(OCP), short circuit protection(SCP), open loop protection (OLP), enable pin(EN), soft start(SS), and high-low side driver. This controller is working with a wide input voltage range of 4V-48V and output voltage range of 1.2V-38V.

　　The device provides the high efficiency of up to 98% with a sampling frequency of 500KHz. It exhibits a low quiescent current of 35μA and also provides various switching frequencies from 100KHz to 500KHz. With two integrated drivers, the device provides less Rds(on) and very low switching energy loss. With an enable pin (EN), the device gets enable through a logic high voltage.The working principle of MP163CGS-5 is pretty simple. When an input voltage is applied, a PWM signal is generated from the oscillator and current-mode. The PWM signal is used to drive two N-Mosfet\'s on and off. During the off period, a diode associated with the other Mosfet is activated to recover the energy stored in the primary inductor. Once the device is enabled and has reached the desired voltage, the output voltage will stay constant regardless of input voltage line.

　　MP163CGS-5 is an ideal PWM controller for offline and isolated AC/DC converters. It’s ideal for applications demanding high efficiency, small form factor, and high current switching with low dissipation losses. This controller is suitable for low voltage applications, such as those in telecom, automotive, and telecom applications. Additionally, it can also be used in Intelligent Power Modules (IPM) system to control the AC-DC power supply.
