MP28223DD-LF-Z is a high efficiency synchronous step-down DC-DC regulator which contains an integrated power switch.The power switch ensures minimum standby current and high efficiency switching performance. The device reduces the need for an external Schottky diode and minimum external components, which makes it suitable for space constrained applications.

MP28223DD-LF-Z is designed to operate from a wide input voltage range from 0.9V to 11V and provides adjustable output voltage from 0.6V to 5V. The device supports up to 4A output load current with maximum duty cycle of 85%. It requires up to 10V for the operating voltage of the switching regulator and TSD circuit. With peak current mode control, MP28223DD-LF-Z provides excellent current mode performance, providing fast, stable output current and low output ripple voltage.

The device features an integrated thermal shut down, rich diagnostic features and programmable soft start timing. Working Principle: The power switch in the MP28223DD-LF-Z is driven by the output feedback voltage. The input voltage is stepped down by an internal switch and then converted to a regulated output voltage by an intrinsic voltage feedback loop. The output voltage is scaled back by a voltage divider or an internal resistive divider placed at the FB (Servo) pin. This output voltage is used to monitor the internal control circuitry by an internal voltage feedback loop. If the output voltage is too high, the control circuitry will decrease the switching frequency thus reducing the output voltage. If the output voltage is too low, the control circuitry will increase the switching frequency thus resulting in higher output voltage.

At no load, the device will be in a low power state with a very low quiescent current. The device can be put in a forced PWM mode to allow for a more efficient operation. When the output load changes, the device will adjust the switching frequency to dynamically maintain the programmed output voltage.
