MP3389EF-LF-Z is designed for applications as a DC-DC converter for driving single LED string or multiple LED strings for white LED backlight in handheld device or tablet PC. It provides ultra high efficiency with maximum 75A source/sink capability and up to 15A sink current at its output. With its lightweight and compact size, MP3389EF-LF-Z can be interfaced with multiple Dimming interface protocols such as I2C, PMBus and PWM. The LED current is programmable via voltage commands ranging from 0.5V to 4.05V, allowing a single LED string to be drive below 0.6V.

Working Principle of MP3389EF-LF-Z

MP3389EF-LF-Z works based on multiple control structures : Constant Current (CC) and Maximum power point tracking (MPPT). When using the CC structure, MP3389EF-LF-Z drives the LED string with a current equal to the programmed current. When using the MPPT structure, the LED string is driven with the most efficient current within the programmed current range.MP3389EF-LF-Z is integrated with high performance current sense amplifier, providing an accuracy of 1% with a full range current limit up to 75A, current mode control and power switch. With the gain of 5V/V, it can be programmed with voltage levels ranging from 0.5V to 4.05V. The output current is programmable with a separate channel.The internal power switch of the MP3389EF-LF-Z enables the optimization of efficiency by decreasing the voltage drop across the switch. The high voltage control loop maintains reference accuracy and at the same time the LED string is lighted with a constant current.
