Working Principle

The MP5403BGQBU-P synchronous rectifier buck converter consists of two main stages, the main control loop and the synchronous rectifier. The main control loop includes a reference voltage input (VREF) and an error amplifier (EA) which compares the reference voltage with the output voltage. The error amplifier regulates the PWM comparator (COMP) switching profile, completing the loop to provide the feedback required for a precise output voltage setpoint.The PWM comparator compares the error amplifier output voltage (EA_OUT) with a sawtooth waveform (TGT_COM). If the error amplifier output voltage is higher than the sawtooth waveform, the comparator output will be high maximizing the on-time of the upper MOSFET and sinking current into the inductor. If the error amplifier output is lower than the sawtooth waveform, the comparator output will be low, releasing the upper MOSFET and forcing the lower MOSFET to switch on, sourcing current from the inductor.The lower MOSFET switch is controlled by a pulse with modulation (PWM) signal generated by the external EN pin, reducing the area of the inductor duty cycle. The external EN pin can be used to enable/disable the synchronous rectifier circuit.When the upper MOSFET is on, the current starts to flow through the inductor, storing energy in the form of magnetic field. As the upper MOSFET is switched off, the magnetic field collapses, forcing the current to flow through the diode and then to the output capacitor. As the energy is stored in the output capacitor, a stable output voltage is maintained.
