The MPC8360CVVAGDG is a microprocessor specifically designed for embedded applications. Its integrated design makes it ideal for embedded controls, telecommunications, sensors, industrial controllers, and automotive applications. MPC8360CVVAGDG is based on the PowerPC e500 core which has an out-of-order (OoO) dual-issue superscalar microarchitecture. The OoO instruction pipelines support up to three instructions per cycle, with both instructions being dispatched at once. The RISC architecture also allows for instruction set extensibility, allowing easily accelerates algorithms. The result is more efficient and consistent performance compared to other architectures.
MPC8360CVVAGDG is manufactured in the advanced 0.13-micron CMOS process on a single die substrate. It includes on-chip caches, system and peripheral buses, and a precision-timed interrupt structure. On-die integrated caches include a 128Kbyte L1 instruction cache and a 32Kbyte L1 data cache. Additionally, the MPC8360CVVAGDG contains a 2Mbyte L2 cache implemented in an external SRAM component. This L2 cache stores frequent and last-used data, minimizing memory access time and relieving pressure from the L1 caches.
The processor supports 5- to 10-bit External Address Bus (EAB) interfaces, and is fully compliant with AMD AMP bus protocol. The EAB has an integrated memory controller that supports DDR2 and DDR3 RAM, as well as other external memory interfaces. The processor also supports 3 independent external buses. This includes the ASB2, plus two optional Peripheral Local Bus (PLB) connections.
