The MPC875 is a 32-bit embedded microprocessor released by Freescale Semiconductor in 2003 and targeted at control applications in the industrial, automotive and consumer markets. This microprocessor is the most powerful member of Freescale\'s MPC8xx family of embedded microprocessors and is designed to meet the growing demands of embedded applications with its advanced and sophisticated features.

The MPC875\'s application field and working principle include power control, automotive entertainment, communications, and robotics. It achieves this through its powerful processor, memory controller, and peripherals. This combination yields an ultra low-power, cost effective, and high performance embedded processor.

The MPC875 provides the highest levels of on-chip system design flexibility with a variety of options. It includes an on-chip 32-Kbyte instruction cache, 32-Kbyte data cache, 256-Kbyte RAM, 8-Kbyte ROM, 16-Kbyte EEPROM, and two programmable general purpose timers. In addition, the MPC875 is designed to support both power and noise reduction with its low-power modes, varying supply voltages, and low-current operation.

The MPC875 consists of an internal microsequencer, an instruction and data cache, a powerful load/store unit, a priority interrupt controller, and a memory controller that is capable of controlling up to four independent memory subsystems. This microprocessor can run at a maximum speed of 66MHz and is capable of executing all operating system instructions. The MPC875 utilizes the PowerPC’s reduced-instruction set computing (RISC) architecture which allows it to execute instructions with a reduced number of clock cycles. This enables the microprocessor to run faster than processors with complex instruction set computing (CISC) architectures.

The MPC875 includes flash memory, SRAM memory, and a bank of general purpose and special purpose I/O interfaces for connecting peripherals, such as printers and displays. Additionally, the e600 core supports hardware multithreading and can operate with up to eight hardware threads. This architecture allows the processor to handle multiple tasks efficiently.

In addition to its powerful multi-threaded e600 processor core, the MPC875 features an improved memory subsystem, dual interrupt controllers, peripheral controllers, low-power modes, and advanced power management capabilities. These features provide the MPC875 with greater system scalability and increased performance.
