Working Principle of MRT 2-BULK-SHORT Fuses

MRT 2-BULK-SHORT fuses use a fast-acting thermal-magnetic heating element linked to a current-sensitive microswitch to open and shut it off. This thermal-magnetic heating element is triggered when the current flow exceeds its specified rating. The fuse heat causes thermally-sensitive bimetal lugs to bend and close the circuit, switching off the power source connected to the protected system.

When a fault occurs within the protected system, it will draw more current from the supply. This increased current flow causes the thermal-magnetic heating element to activate, resulting in an open circuit protection of the system. A triggered fuse is identified by the open circuit status of the protected system and/or the heating element burned open.

When the current flow returns to normal, the thermal-magnetic heating element automatically resets itself, resetting the circuit and allowing power to the system. The reset time is dependent on the magnitude of the load that activated the fuse.

For maximum protection, MRT 2-BULK-SHORT fuses are equipped with a 100kA short circuit rating, making it a reliable option for protection against both overloads and short circuits. Because of its fast-acting thermal-magnetic element, these fuses can respond to fault conditions in less than one millisecond, providing real-time protection from dangerous overloads and short circuits.
