MRTCPE-BBBCAPE is a family of industrial-grade evaluation boards which can be used to build RapidIO expansion boards, daughter cards and more. This evaluation board family comes with a single-board computer (SBC) design which utilizes an expansion connector which allows for seamless integration of off-the-shelf RapidIO communication devices such as SFPs, SERDES, and telemetry receivers and transmitters.

The RapidIO expansion board module, which is also provided with the evaluation boards, provides an instation power supply with an additional expansion connector, which allows for expansive board functionality. A broad range of daughter cards can be attached to the expansion connector, such as memory, processor, sensor or communications cards. This ensures that the boards are able to accommodate various mix-and-match components for more flexible expansion.

In addition to the RapidIO expansion boards, the MRTCPE-BBBCAPE family also offers a variety of peripheral boards such as analog I/O, motor control, and digital I/O boards. These peripheral boards provide the evaluation board with the necessary interface and control pins which are required for a successful expansion board’s deployment. In addition, the evaluation boards also feature easy to use graphical user interfaces which allow for ease of testing and deployment of the expansion boards.

The working principle of the MRTCPE-BBBCAPE family of evaluation boards is based on the RapidIO® communications protocol. This protocol is an asynchronous, packet based communication which is optimized for efficient and cost effective data transmission. The RapidIO® protocol is utilized by the expansion boards, in order to communicate with each other, enabling them to process and exchange data between them in a synchronous, packet based fashion.

The RapidIO® protocol is used in the MRTCPE-BBBCAPE family of evaluation boards due to its robustness and low-power characteristics.
