The MRT 80-BULK fuse, or maximum remote trip fuse, is a fuse that can be remotely tripped to protect a motor from damage due to overloads or short-circuit current. When a fuse opens, its associated circuit is immediately de-energized, allowing the motor to cool down and preventing further damage. The MRT 80-BULK fuse is designed to be placed in a distribution panel, where it functions as an overcurrent protective device.

The MRT 80-BULK fuse consists of a current-limiting fuse element, a one-way current limiting regulator, a trip relay, and a control module. All are housed in a common NEMA 4 rated insulated plastic enclosure. The fuse element is a UL 98 listed fuse designed to limit fault current relatively uniformly throughout its element.

The one-way current limiting regulator is connected in front of the fuse element. When a short-circuit occurs, the regulator will prevent high-current damage to the MRT fuse and distribution panel by limiting the total current to a value that can be safely handled by the MRT 80-BULK fuse.

The trip relay is connected to the line side of the MRT fuse. It is a very precise device, calibrated to trip within a three-millisecond time frame. This allows the MRT 80-BULK fuse to quickly and safely de-energize the circuit whenever the predetermined overload or short-circuit current is exceeded.

The control module of the MRT 80-BULK fuse is the brain of the system. This module is programmable and can be programmed to trip at a predetermined voltage, current, or time. The module is also designed with a reset timer, which prevents a tripped MRT 80-BULK fuse from being reset if the fault is not cleared within a predetermined time

Since the MRT 80-BULK fuse is designed to de-energize the motor in the event of an overload or high-current fault, it is an indispensable safety device in industrial motor control applications.
