Solid state relays(SSRs) are increasingly replacing traditional electromechanical relays in a wide range of applications due to their reliability, low power consumption, and the absence of moving parts. Working Principle:
Possibly the greatest advantage of solid state relays is their long life. That\'s because, unlike electromechanical relays, they don\'t need to switch in order to operate. The MS11-CX240D5 SSR has an open-collector output that is driven by a linear circuit using a MOSFET. This switch opens and closes the output contacts based on the input signal.
The input signal is usually expressed in milliamps or microamps with the current activated by an input circuit that is connected to the relay control terminal. When the correct voltage/current threshold is reached, the input is activated, closing the output contacts and allowing the load current to flow. As the load current is controlled by the SSR, a low-voltage, low-power input signal can be used to activate the output contacts.
To switch it off, the solid state relay assesses the load current on the output terminals and deenergizes the relay when the current falls beneath the threshold. This is a very efficient way to control the output current, since no power is wasted in the process.
