Working Principle
The MX1.5KE18CA is a Unidirectional TVS Diode that is optimized to reduce ESD and other transient voltage events from damaging sensitive components. The diode is basically a voltage clamping device with a reverse bias break down at a particular voltage level and a forward bias breakdown at a particular voltage level. This allows it to respond quickly to transients, providing an effective clamping action against overvoltage transients. It also has low capacitance and low peak pulse current. The device is designed to shunt high energy pulses away from sensitive components and to provide overvoltage protection.
When the supply voltage rises above the breakdown voltage, the TVS Diode will conduct, route the energy to ground and thereby reduce the energy levels below damaging levels. Conversely, when the voltage is below the breakdown voltage, the device will not conduct, thus providing an open circuit. This enables it to ensure the circuit is not discharged constantly and that the rated voltage of the device is not exceeded.
The components of this diode, such as its integrated silicon oxide encapsulation and junction isothermal strata, combine to provide high performance for ESD protection. The silicon oxide encapsulation is also environment and moisture resistant and thus protects the component from wear and tear.
The MX1.5KE18CA also provides very low parasitic capacitance and low Leakage current, this is important when used to protect high-speed data signal lines.
