MXLPLAD30KP14A Working Principle

When an overvoltage occurs, the MXLPLAD30KP14A transient voltage suppressor diode will respond by clamping the voltage, dissipating energy and protecting the attached circuitry from damage. Once the surge has been dissipated, the diode will switch back to its open mode. This switching is performed by an avalanche breakdown within the diode, during which the reverse diode current is increased exponentially when the voltage across it is increased beyond a certain threshold. When this occurs, free electrons gain enough energy to break the covalent bond within the diode and create electron-hole pairs, thus allowing current to pass through the diode. The electrons then recombine with the holes, resulting in a decrease of diode current and the diode eventually switching back to its open mode.
