TVS - Diodes

The MXPLAD18KP14A is a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) diode series, specifically designed for electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection. It is an unidirectional device intended to protect electronic components from damage due to high-energy transient surges.

Application Field

The MXPLAD18KP14A is mainly used for data and signal lines protection. It has a wide range of applications that require a robust and reliable transient overvoltage and overcurrent suppressor solution, such as telecoms, datacomms, computer peripherals, consumer electronics, industrial, automotive and medical devices.

Working Principle

The MXPLAD18KP14A diode is designed to protect electronic components from ESD, Electrostatic Discharge, transients and other induced surges. It acts as a shunt device, whereby its negative-going Clamp Factor limits and diverts potentially destructive voltage transients away from sensitive circuits.

When connected to a protected circuit, it limits the voltage seen by the protected circuit and requires less than 1nA of reverse current to operate. As a bilateral device, the MXPLAD18KP14A provides protection on both the positive and the negative line. Its zener voltage range is 15V to 18V and its maximum peak pulse power is 360W – depending on the transient impulse wave form.

The device can also be used in combination with other overvoltage protection components in order to provide higher surge ratings. It has been designed to integrate very easily into existing circuit designs, and is thermally stable up to an ambient temperature of 125°C.
