For low-frequency interference, the common-mode filter works by creating an inductive field, which attenuates high-frequency current, while the differential-mode filter creates a capacitive field, which attenuates low-frequency current. At higher frequencies, both the common-mode and differential-mode filters work together to reduce interference levels.

The MZ1230 PLFM is also capable of providing protection from power surges, spikes and other sudden voltage or current changes. This is achieved by a combination of safety mechanisms, including surge protection, transient voltage suppression, and a switch disconnector. When a surge occurs, the internal circuitry is designed to trip, shutting off the device and protecting the system and components from harm.

The MZ1230 PLFM is ideal for a variety of industrial and commercial applications, such as lighting, motor control, audio equipment, communications equipment, elevators, security systems, and power over Ethernet (POE). It can also be used in medical installations to meet EMI regulations. The device is rated to withstand up to 10A, 120/240V AC, and features UL and CSA certification for safety and reliability.
