NCP1030GEVB features an ultra-low frequency frequency (30kHz) step-down, quasi-resonant design, providing 15V/500mA output from a wide input voltage range (85-285VAC). NCP1030GEVB is targeted at AC/DC and DC/DC applications where a low-cost, low-noise, high-efficiency power supply is required. It is ideally suited for use in consumer applications such as notebook computers, game consoles, led lighting, display backlighting, digital cameras and digital camcorders.Working Principle
The NCP1030GEVB uses a quasi-resonant topology of buck converter which allow an output power range from 0W to 500W. A quasi-resonant control approach is adopted by the NCP1030GEVB which is extremely light in harmonic distortion and achievable with a low component count, making it ideal for low cost applications with high efficiency requirements. In the step-down converter, the input voltage is stepped down to the desired output voltage using a pair of power switches, which are driven by a gate driver IC. The high-side switch is normally kept on and the low-side switch is turned on and off according to the output voltage level using PWM signals. The output voltage is sensed from the output and fed back to the primary side through an opto-isolator. This signal is used to control the switching of the switches, with the frequencies of the switches\'operation proportional to the output voltage. The output voltage can be set by adjusting the on-time and off-time of the power switches using the on-board microcontroller.Conclusion
