The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB evaluation board provides a cost-effective solution for rapid prototyping and characterization of the NCP1014 LED Driver. This board is part of the Data Conversion evaluation board family and falls under the group of Evaluation Boards – LED Drivers. This document describes the system design principles, application and functionality of the NCP1014LEDR2GEVB.

As LEDs become more prevalent, driving their higher brightness effectively requires an LED driver; NCP1014 is a fully programmable device designed to intelligently regulate the brightness of LEDs in either linear or logarithmic fashion. The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB evaluation board allows users to quickly evaluate and configure the NCP1014 LED Driver for eight LEDs, with flexibility to connect any type of LED array. The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB is ideally suited for applications such as commercial and automotive lighting.

The NCP1014 LED Driver employs a sophisticated algorithm that accurately regulates LED current over a wide range of input voltages. This algorithm allows the LED to be precisely dimmed at low levels while producing a low ripple current, resulting in improved LED lifetime and efficiency. The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB is based on a patented algorithm and is capable of driving up to eight LEDs in series or parallel configurations.

The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB evaluation board includes all necessary components to evaluate the NCP1014 LED Driver. The board is equipped with a 24-pin DIP socket for mounting the NCP1014 LED Driver, and all necessary power components for a complete LED solution. The board also features four channel LEDs, enabling the user to quickly evaluate different LED configurations. The four channel LEDs are connected to either a single channel of the NCP1014 (1 loop) or two channels of the NCP1014 (2 loop).

The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB evaluation board is designed to operate with any current, voltage and temperature regulation requirements for controlling all types of LED arrays. With its low quiescent current and high efficiency, this board is suitable for a variety of evaluation applications. Users can evaluate the NCP1014 with varying current levels, different dimming speeds and various levels of input voltage in order to characterize the NCP1014 LED Driver.

The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB evaluation board includes a USB connection for easy control and monitoring of the NCP1014. The USB port provides users with the ability to set and read the various NCP1014 parameters, such as the current source level and the PWM dimmability. Additionally, the USB connection allows users to monitor the current and voltage levels at each stage of the evaluation process.

The NCP1014LEDR2GEVB evaluation board is designed to be easy to use and requires minimal setup to evaluate the NCP1014 LED Driver. The board features comprehensive diagnostic features for troubleshooting. The evaluation board has built-in LEDs for visual indication of the NCP1014 parameters. Additionally, the board features a temperature monitor for monitoring of the LED junction temperature.
