The NCP1076DIPGEVB evaluation board, whose full name is the NCV1076DIPGEVB Digitally Enhanced Power Factor Corrected off-line Switcher, is a high efficiency monolithic protection IC specifically designed to be used with consumer Electronics applications. The evaluation board offers a unique solution to provide a single-chip approach for high efficiency, low cost, ultra-compact power supplies.
The application field of the NCP1076DIPGEVB board includes a wide range of AC/DC and DC/DC converters such as flyback and forward converters, SMPS, LNBs and LED drivers. In addition, the board provides a complete solution for LCD TVs and monitors which require PFC (Power Factor Correction) and EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) Filter applications. Moreover, the board can be used in a wide range of automotive, communication, and industrial applications such as motherboard power supply, home appliance, LED lighting, and an industrial server.
The NCP1076DIPGEVB board works by combining a high voltage P-channel MOSFET, rectifier bridge and pre-regulator with the NCV1076 IC. The controller consists of three main sections: the Pulse-Width-Modulation (PWM) controller, VCC regulation and feedback loop. The PWM controller receives a peak-current and peak-voltage set-point from the voltage error amplifier and provides a trimable frequency and over-shoot compensation. The VCC section regulates the constant output voltage level by using a P-channel MOSFET. The feedback loop sets the output voltage to its preset level and maintains an excellent output voltage accuracy over the entire load range. To prevent damage to the system, the board also implements a thermal protection circuit that shuts off the power when the junction temperature exceed the specified limit.
