Power over Ethernet (POE) controllers are designed to provide power supply and site management control over cables. NXP’s NCP1091DRG is a high-performance and low-power, 3.2A/3.5A Ethernet PoE controller IC with advanced Active and/or Link Loss discovery and power management features. This IC is designed for switch powered inline applications, such as IP phones, wireless LAN access points, and more.

The NCP1091DRG features outputs for two pairs of dual-detection PoE ports, with a maximum of four PoE ports allowed. It utilizes separate power control circuitry for each port, enabling independent power distribution and maximum port flexibility. It comes with an integrated 3.2A power switch, a 3.5A power switch, and can accommodate up to two voltage-sense channels.

The NCP1091DRG is designed to detect both Directed Link PD and 802.3af PD devices. It supports both Art-Net and IEEE 802.3af Class 0, 1, 2 and 3 PDs, and can detect up to 32 PDs. It also supports 802.3af link loss detection and automatic power shut off to save system power. The NCP1091DRG can be integrated with an external Power Delivery PSE (PD Pin-out ports) or a Switch-to-Switch PD management.

The NCP1091DRG has multiple outputs for various power levels and voltage sensing inputs. It features Dynamic Voltage Optimizer (DVO) for low power mode and high power mode, with over-voltage protection, temperature monitoring, and open/short circuit detection. The NCP1091DRG also has built-in circuit protection, such as over-current, surge and reverse polarity protection.
