NCP15WM224E03RC consists of a plastic rectangular case with 2 pads of 3.2mm x 3.2mm size. An NTC thermistor is installed inside the plastic case and is regulated with the help of an external resistor. The thermistor has a negative Temperature coefficient (NTC) which indicates that its resistance decreases with an increase in temperature. This allows the resistance of the thermistor to be adjusted according to the input temperature in its environment and helps in providing a better accuracy of temperature measurement with a low power consumption in the system.
The principle of operation of the NCP15WM224E03RC Temperature sensor is quite simple. The NTC thermistor functions as a voltage divider and decreases the output voltage of the power source when the temperature around the thermistor increases. The amount of decrease is directly proportional to the ambient temperature change. Thus, the ambient temperature can be measured by analyzing the output voltage from the voltage divider. The readings from the analog output are then uses for process control and monitoring applications.
