NCP5007SNT1G Applications
The NCP5007SNT1G is suitable for a wide range of applications, including: flash and RGB displays, camera flash, torch LEDs, street lights and other lighting applications, automotive lights and daytime running lights, smart bulbs and industrial automation.
The NCP5007SNT1G supports up to five white or RGB LEDs in series with a wide range of control modes, including linear and pulse-width-modulation (PWM) dimming modes. It offers flexibility of up to 8.25V input supply, and up to 90% peak efficiency with low quiescent current. It is able to drive more than 500mA of forward current, allowing for high bright-to-dim ratio, and maintains lower forward voltage across the LEDs for improved energy efficiency.
It is compliant with the EN EU60065/72065 standards, making it suitable for automotive exterior lighting applications. With a wide dynamic range (65535 steps for linear dimming and 256 steps for PWM dimming) the NCP5007SNT1G is ideal for applications requiring digital control such as portable lighting, mood lighting, and LED displays.
NCP5007SNT1G Working Principle
The NCP5007SNT1G works on a fixed frequency, pulse-width-modulation (PWM) dimming principle. It supports two dimming modes, linear dimming and PWM dimming, with a resolution of 65535 and 256 steps respectively. Linear dimming is a technique wherein the LED current is adjusted in a linear fashion. The output current of the NCP5007SNT1G is internally regulated to maintain the desired output current level.
In PWM dimming mode, the NCP5007SNT1G switches the LEDs ON and OFF quickly at a frequency determined by the user. By adjusting the ‘off’ or ‘on’ time with respect to the total cycle time (period), the output current level of the LEDs is adjusted accordingly. With its high speed switching, the NCP5007SNT1G is able to offer a high full-to-dim ratio and low forward voltage, resulting in improved efficiency.
The NCP5007SNT1G is protected from overheating, overvoltage and over-current. It also provides safety from external spikes and electromagnetic interference (EMI) by providing an integrated EMI filter. An adjustable soft-start feature helps to provide a smooth start characteristic for the LED.
