The NCP5203MNR2 is a Single Mosfet Versatile High-SideSwitching Controller, specifically designed to safely drive various electronicloads in applications requiring high-side switching such as cooling fans,automotive systems, home appliances and industrial equipment.
It is a high-sidemosfet driver integrated into a low quiescent current and small packagesolution. It has been designed to support harsh automotive environments withtemperature range from -40 to +125C and ESD protection up to >6KV. Thecontroller provides enhanced diagnostics functionalities (T_FAULT, Open Load andGround Fault Detection, Lock Protection) and system optimization features suchas thermal management, to increase the reliability and robustness of systemoperations. It also provides slew rate limited Output current, Auto RecoveryMode and internal Calibration.]
The NCP5203MNR2 belongs to the ‘Special Purpose’ category in PMIC Voltage Regulators family. Its main advantage is its low quiescentcurrent, allowing to minimize power consumption. It can operate either in normalmode, or in low-power standby state, monitored by an external logic signal. Theswitching device is capable of turning on or off the load circuit byresponding to a logic control signal, according to a duty cycle. One of the biggestadvantages of this component is that it has built-in thermal protection,preventing potential system crashes.
In addition, it issupplied with bootstrap supply voltage, which provides greater current drivecapability. When thermal conditions arise, the controller goes into automaticsurvival mode by cutting off the power-on current spike and further protectingthe system from possible damage. Additionally, versatile and configurable protectionschemes are implemented in order to avoid system damages, such as open loaddetection, ground fault detection and over-temperature management.
The device supports aninput voltage range of 6.5 to 36V DC, allowing it to be used in a host oftoday’s popular applications such as HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning)cooling systems, automotive applications and industrial equipment.It supports 3 different operating modes, including normal PWM operation,sleep mode and during restart, in order to provide greater flexibility. Thesefeatures make it suitable for high voltage applications such as inverter,solar inverter, charger, motor drive, etc.
The NCP5203MNR2 is able tosupport high-power applications as a result of its current drive capability up to2A. It also features low-current drain in shutdown mode, of typically 350nAat 12V which makes it ideal for those applications that require low operatingpower consumption.
