NIS6201DR2G (DR2G) is a fully integrated DC/DC power management IC. Working Principle
During operation, DR2G switches between two voltage levels, which represent the two states of a power switch. The two levels are VOUT and VOUT-VOFF, where VOFF is the dropout voltage of the buck converter. The buck converter operates operating in synchronization with a controller. The controller is responsible for controlling the switch duty cycle. The output voltage is determined by the duty cycle of the switch and follows VOUT=(VIN)*(D/100) and VOUT-VOFF=(VIN-VOFF)*(D/100).
The Soft-Start feature on DR2G plays an important role in preventing large inrush currents from flowing into the system when the power is first applied. It also reduces the input current peak to a fraction of its initial value once the output of the buck converter reaches the programmed voltage. The OCP feature helps protect the system by sensing the output current and shutting off the converter when it exceeds the OCP threshold.
