The NJM567 is a high-performance dual phase-locked loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer that offers unparalleled flexibility to optimize switching frequencies and jitter performance. It features an integrated voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) and dual clock-generator loop. The NJM567 also allows the user to program the digital phase-locked loop, output frequency range, and loop bandwidth.

The NJM567D is a versatile PLL frequency synthesizer designed to provide an optimal solution for synchronizing high-speed digital circuitry to multiple reference signals. Both reference and generated frequencies are adjustable over a wide frequency range. The NJM567D is capable of handling both analog and digital input signals and is designed to generate two clock outputs according to the reference input reference frequency. The two clock outputs are out of phase, one shifted by 180 degrees with respect to the other.

The working principle of the NJM567D is based on a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) which is used to generate two clock signals. The VCO is “tuned” to the desired frequency via the Analogue-to-Digital Converter (ADC) which converts the reference input frequency into a suitable measurement for the VCO. The VCO then produces two sinusoidal waveforms whose frequency is slightly different from the reference frequency due to the variable tuning range of the VCO.

The two clock signals are then passed through a second stage of PLL looping called the “recognizer”. This loop carries out a comparison between the clock output from the VCO and the reference signal. Any difference between the two signals will cause the VCO to be re-tuned until the two signals match. In this manner, the NJM567D is able to produce a highly accurate clock output frequency relative to the reference signal.

The NJM567D also provides a digital loop filter which provides a smooth transition between the various reference frequencies. This ensures that the VCO is always properly tuned to the desired frequency while at the same time avoiding any unwanted changes in the frequency.
