AC DC Converters – NNS3024 Application Field and Working Principle

Its internal architecture allows for the capacitor to be located externally, which reduces the board footprint and thus, enhances the overall efficiency of the unit. Additionally, the Power Factor Correction (PFC) feature of the NNS3024 is capable of meeting the current EN61000-3-2 standard in terms of power factor, meaning that it can produce higher efficiency conversion from AC to DC than many of the other products currently on the market, while offering enhanced electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance.In terms of its working principle, the NNS3024 is an AC-DC converter with full bridge rectification that combines two power conversion stages, an AC/DC digital controller unit, a fast over-current protection device and transformer. The first stage of the power conversion is the full-bridge rectifier which converts the AC input voltage into the DC input voltage. This is then sent on to the digital controller where it will be transformed into the DC output voltage that is required.The output from the digital controller is then sent through the fast over-current protection device as it is then sent into the second stage of the power conversion, the DC/DC converter, which further reduces the output voltage to the desired level. The DC/DC converter is enabled by a power MOSFET which is controlled by PWM signals from the digital controller. The transformer and rectifier bridge in the converter are then used to further reduce and convert the DC output voltage to the required AC output voltage, thus completing the AC-DC conversion process.The features of the NNS3024, in terms of high efficiency, low total cost of ownership and reliable operation, make it the ideal choice for any application in which AC to DC power conversion is needed. Its ability to meet the EN61000-3-2 standards in terms of power factor means that it can be used in home equipment markets, telecoms markets and industrial lighting and process control, among other applications.
