OM-USB-HK, short for Optical Isolator USB-to-2-Hirose Connectors, is a kind of isolator control used in automation control systems that isolate signals from controlling or monitored devices to protect them from harmful electric surges. While common isolators use analog signals, the OM-USB-HK isolator uses optical signals thus allowing higher protection from electric surges compared to analog signals.
Application Field
The OM-USB-HK isolator is applicable to harsh environments and can be used in industrial control processes. With its strong shielding and protection capability from electric surges, it is commonly used for monitoring and controlling power, electric motor controllers, level detection control, temperature control, pressure detection control and other control systems that may be exposed to high voltages.
Working Principle
The OM-USB-HK isolator uses optical signals which make use of electro-optical effect to convert electrical signals into optical signals, which are then sent down a transmission medium. The optical signals are then reconverted into electrical signals on the receiving end. This isolator is controlled by a USB interface.
When transmitting and receiving digital signals, the OM-USB-HK isolator is able to pass a signal of up to 128Kb/s with no loss. It can support up to 32 channels simultaneously. Each channel of the OM-USB-HK isolator is connected to a USB port on the host computer.
Once an electrical signal is received, the OM-USB-HK isolator will convert it into a series of optical pulses and then transmit the encoded signal via the transmission medium. The optical pulses are then received at the receiver, decoded and converted into electrical signals and the output will then display the original signal.
For reliable data transmission, the OM-USB-HK isolator also provides signal modulation, checksum, error detection and correction features. The data is also encrypted for added security during transmission.
Conclusion
The OM-USB-HK isolator is a valuable tool in automation control systems as it provides an effective way of isolating the signals from controlling and monitored units from potentially damaging surge voltages. Its ability to use optical signals and offer multi-channel connectivity also ensure that it can be used in a variety of applications.
