Optoisolators are electronic components that offer electrical isolation between the input and output. They are available as discrete components or as integrated circuit modules. The OP760A is a photovoltaic output transistor-coupled optocoupler that provides a high degree of electrical isolation and is highly reliable.

The OP760A is designed for use in applications where a high degree of insulation and signal transmission fidelity is required. The OP760A has a maximum output current of 200mA and an insulation voltage of 7.5kV. The optocoupler is housed in an 8-pin DIP package and has a broad operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C. The optocoupler also provides low average current drain and a direct isolation channel between input and output.

The optocoupler is made up of three components – the photodiode, the LED, and the output transistor. The photodiode converts input signals into photocurrents. The current passes through the LED, generating light which is supplied to the output transistor (which is isolated from the photodiode). When the light from the LED is incident on the output transistor, it triggers a current flow in the collector-emitter path.

The transistor-output optocoupler is the most widely used of all optocoupler configurations. The output current can be switched on or off by controlling the base current of the output transistor. The output current is proportional to the collector current, making it ideal for high-speed switching applications. Additionally, the optocoupler has very low isolation resistance, allowing for high signal fidelity and minimal signal distortion.
