Optical sensors are composed of two parts: the detector and the receiver. Photodiodes are the primary choice of detector for modern optical sensor systems. An OP916 is an example of a photodiode-based optical sensor designed for mid-wave infrared (MWIR) applications. The OP916 is a MWIR optical detector with a GaAs/Bi/Sb-barrier type structure. It is made of a p-type area with an n-type-barrier region. This barrier region is where the MWIR radiation is absorbed.
