Optical Sensors - Photodiodes

OP955 is a high-sensitivity and high-accuracy long-wavelength photodiode, the maximum wavelength of which can be up to 1.6μm. It is a low cost, high performance photoelectric detector with a low dark current and a very wide dynamic range suitable for many applications where a very sensitive photodiode is required. It utilizes a oxide-copper-nanowire structure with an asymmetric lateral bandgap to enable high responsivity.

Application Field

OP955 is suitable for many applications such as LIDAR, spectroscopy, acquisition of biomedical signals, and optical communications. It can also be used in medical imaging, spectrophotometry, laser range finders, long-distance laser communications, and long-distance infrared scene imaging for defense and security. Additionally, OP955 can be used for fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy and for remote sensing such as atmospheric and cosmic studies.

Working Principle

The OP955 Photodiode operates on the principle of photoconductance in which the electrical current generated by the incident light is proportional to the light intensity. The OP955 has a built-in avalanche multiplication, which amplifies the signal generated by the incident light. The photodiode\'s core consists of a highly sensitive, low-noise, low dark current detector chip and a miniaturized 1.6µm crystal lens. The lens collects the light onto the detector chip, which then produces a current proportional to the incident intensity. The current is then amplified by the avalanche multiplication circuit and converted into an electrical signal.

OP955 also features a fast response time, which enables it to respond to high-speed changes in light intensity. It also has an improved signal-to-noise ratio due to its low-noise characteristics. Moreover, its asymmetric lateral bandgap technology enables it to achieve a very high responsivity. This technology also increases temperature stability, ensuring that the photodiode can operate at extreme temperatures.

Overall, OP955 provides an extremely sensitive and accurate photodiode for a variety of applications. Its low dark current, wide dynamic range, fast response time, and high responsivity make it a valuable option for any application that requires a sensitive and high-accuracy photodiode.
