OPB702R, a kind of optical reflective sensor, is designed for analog output applications, which is widely used in various industrial areas. It is a necessary part of many control or automation systems.The OPB702R has a DC semiconductor optical source (infrared LED), a receiver photodiode and an integrated circuit containing a transimpedance amplifier, rectification and a logical interface. The transimpedance amplifier converts the current generated by the output of the receiver photodiode to an analog voltage. The logical interface is then used to convert the analog voltage to a digital signal, which can be used to sensing the presence or absence of an object in the field of view of the sensor.When an object is placed in the field of view of the sensor, the light emitted from the LED is reflected off the object and emitted onto the receiver photodiode. The photodiode generates an output current in response to the captured light, the amplitude and polarity of which is proportional to the reflected light’s intensity. This output current is then converted to an analog voltage signal by the transimpedance amplifier. The analog voltage is checked by the logical interface and a digital signal is produced when the voltage is within a certain range.The digital signal is then used to control various systems, such as industrial machines, motor drives, conveyors, etc. The sensor can also be used for counting items on a production line or monitoring the speed of a machine. It is also used in many other applications, such as in medical equipment, consumer electronics, and automotive applications.Oftentimes, the application of an OPB702R sensor requires two power supplies, one for the LED and the other for the transimpedance amplifier and the logical interface. The LED in the sensor needs a DC voltage supply of 2 to 5 volts, while the other components need a DC voltage supply of 5 to 20 volts, with a current on the order of milliamps.
