OPB983N11 Application Field and Working Principle

Photointerrupters are optically connected components that are widely used in industrial, automotive and consumer electronic applications. The signal output will depend on the form of light emitted from the LED, which is determined by the voltage across the terminals of the LED. The light pulses generated by the LED will activate the phototransistor when the slot is visible and interrupt the beam of light when the slot is closed. As a result, the output of the Phototransistor will switch between high and low states.
