Optomechanical micro relays (OMR4s) are the leading technology used in a wide range of electronic, industrial and consumer applications. OMR4s are an innovative, highly reliable electromechanical device that uses an optically controlled switch to control a range of output voltages and/or currents. OMR4s are capable of quickly and accurately controlling a variety of circuits and devices, and are commonly used in LED indications, data communication, and industrial automation applications.

Optomechanical micro relays (OMR4s) combine precision electronic circuitry with the unique properties of optical switches. OMR4s are comprised of two major components; an integrated drive circuit and an optical micro switch (OMS). The integrated drive circuit regulates the electromechanical operation of the OMS and allows for the sensing of electrical signals from external sources and the control of output voltages and/or currents.

OMR4s used in LED indication applications act as optically controlled switches which can be used to activate or deactivate an LED in response to an electrical signal. This means that an LED can be activated or deactivated simply by providing the corresponding electrical signal. LED indication applications typically involve the use of a discrete OMR4, which is a single OMR4 device. A discrete OMR4 is capable of providing a single voltage or current output, and is typically used with a single LED. For applications which require the control of multiple LED’s, a multiple discrete OMR4 system can be used. A multiple discrete OMR4 system consists of multiple OMR4 devices, each of which is connected to an individual LED.

The working principle of a discrete OMR4 is based on the properties of an optical switch. An optical switch is a device which utilizes a light source (such as a laser diode) to control an electrical circuit. The light emitted by the laser diode is directed onto a mirror, which then reflects the light onto a photo detector. The photo detector is connected to the integrated drive circuit of the OMR4 and is used to control the activation or deactivation of the OMS. When the light beam is directed onto the photo detector, the OMS is activated and the corresponding electrical signal is generated. When the light beam is directed away from the photo detector, the OMS is deactivated and the electrical signal is terminated.

The advantages of OMR4s for LED indication applications are numerous. OMR4s are inexpensive and require minimal amounts of power for operation, making them well suited for low cost, low power applications. Additionally, OMR4s offer improved accuracy and response times, making them highly efficient. Furthermore, OMR4s are extremely reliable, offering greater accuracy and more consistent performance than traditional mechanical switches. Finally, the optically controlled nature of OMR4s makes them much easier to use and configure than traditional mechanical switches.
