TVS – Diodes are essential components in electronic circuits protecting them from voltage transients, surges, and electrostatic discharges. The P-5KP51 is a unidirectional protective device with two anode electrodes, which is designed to protect sensitive semiconductor components, such as integrated circuits (IC), from damaging electrostatic discharge (ESD) events. It is used as an interface for connectors, protection of electrical lines and power supplies, as well as for over-voltage and over-current protection.
The P-5KP51 has two anode electrodes and a maximum rated working peak reverse voltage of 5 kV. It has a fast response time to meet IEC 61000-4-2 level 4 standards, providing superior productivity and reliable protection. It also has a low clamping voltage and low capacitance for improved data integrity protection. The P-5KP51 is typically used in automotive, medical, consumer electronics, military and other highly sensitive applications.
The working principle of the P-5KP51 is based on the same basic operation as any other TVS diode. In an idle state, it is reverse-biased and does not allow current to flow through it. When a voltage transient occurs, or an Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) event takes place, the voltage applied between the anode and cathode of the device will increase. When the voltage differential reaches or exceeds the breakdown voltage of the diode, a current will flow through the device.
When a surge current passes through the device, the voltage across the device increases above the normal breakdown voltage to a defined value known as the clamp voltage. The voltage at the diode clamps at the clamp voltage until the power surge is dissipated. By reducing the voltage and limiting the current, the P-5KP51 is able to protect sensitive components from voltage transients.
The P-5KP51 has a maximum clamping voltage of 18V and a peak pulse current rating of 10A, making it uniquely capable of protecting a variety of sensitive components. Additionally, it has a low capacitance of 0.17pF to ensure high data rates can be maintained, as well as a low minimum breakdown voltage of 5kV. These features make it an attractive solution for protecting sensitive components from ESD, power surges, and other voltage transients.
The P-5KP51 is an essential protection solution for sensitive semiconductors components that provide reliable protection from transient voltages and ESD events. Its low clamping voltage, low capacitance, fast response time, and peak pulse current rating make it ideal for a variety of applications and its maximum voltage and current ratings ensure proper protection for sensitive components.
